At Next Practice Claremont, we provide comprehensive immunisations for children, adults, pregnancy and older adults to protect against preventable diseases.
We follow the Australian Immunisation Handbook and WA Department of Health guidance, and we’ll advise on eligibility for free or subsidised vaccines through the National Immunisation Program (NIP) and state-funded programs, or discuss private options where funding isn’t available.
We cover:
• Children (routine vaccines)
• Adults (COVID-19, influenza, shingles, pertussis, RSV, pneumococcal)
• Pregnancy (whooping cough, influenza, COVID-19, RSV)
• High-risk and older adults (RSV, pneumococcal, boosters)
Q: COVID-19 — Do I need a booster?
Boosters are recommended for higher-risk groups and those whose last dose or infection was several months ago. We’ll advise on timing based on age, health status, and current guidance.
Q: Influenza — Is the flu shot every year?
Yes. The flu vaccine is updated annually. It’s recommended each year, especially for children, older adults, pregnancy, and people with chronic conditions.
Q: Pertussis (whooping cough) in pregnancy — When is it given?
A: A pertussis booster is recommended in every pregnancy, ideally between 20–32 weeks (can be given up to delivery). This protects newborns before their first vaccines.
Q: RSV — Who is eligible and what is funded?
• Pregnancy: The maternal RSV vaccine (Abrysvo) is recommended between 28–36 weeks and is funded in WA under the NIP for eligible pregnant women.
• Infants and young children: WA offers state-funded RSV antibody (Beyfortus/nirsevimab) for certain newborns and high-risk infants. Private options are available if not eligible.
• Adults: RSV vaccines (Abrysvo or Arexvy) are available privately for adults ≥60 years, and strongly recommended for ≥75 years or those with chronic conditions. These are not currently funded, so fees apply.
Q: Pneumococcal — Who needs it and what is funded?
• Children: Funded under the NIP as a 3-dose schedule.
• Adults ≥70 years: Funded under the NIP (e.g., Prevenar 13).
• High-risk adults of any age: Funded for people with conditions like chronic lung/heart disease, diabetes, or immune suppression (may need additional Pneumovax 23).
• Other adults: Can request vaccination privately if desired for extra protection.
Q: Are these vaccines free or subsidised?
Many vaccines are funded under the NIP or WA programs for certain ages, pregnancy, and risk groups. We’ll confirm your eligibility and advise any out-of-pocket fees before proceeding.
Q: Can I receive multiple vaccines at the same visit?
Often, yes. Co-administration is common (e.g., influenza and COVID-19). We’ll plan a safe schedule tailored to you.
Q: How do I book?
Book online or contact our team. We’ll review your history, confirm eligibility, and schedule your immunisation.
